NESLi2 for Publishers

For publishers wishing to raise their profile and sales to the UK academic and research market, NESLi2 represents an efficient, cost effective way to negotiate and disseminate offers to these communities. You will also have the endorsement of working with the JISC brand and a contract with JISC Collections.

From negotiations with a single body, through to a targeted and timely dissemination of your proposal and follow-up on levels of interest or intention to subscribe, NESLi2 is designed to make doing business with the UK academic and research communities as simple as possible for publishers. Offers that are distributed by the Negotiation Agent are sent to named NESLI2 representatives at each of the institutions in the UK.

In return, NESLi2 asks that you help make life easier for potential subscribers by agreeing to use the Model NESLi2 Licence for Journals, trying wherever possible to make your pricing model as straightforward and transparent as possible and helping the Negotiation Agent deliver pricing proposals in a timely fashion in order for libraries to make purchasing decisions in line with their budgetary and renewal cycles.

In addition to the Model Licence for Journals which will be signed by each institution that agrees to purchase a particular offer, participating publishers enter an agreement with JISC Collections.

NESLi2 offers complete flexibility for publishers in terms of how libraries access and order their content. The Negotiation Agent will be establishing your preferences during discussions and will communicate these to the library community. The Secretary of the ASA (Association of Subscription Agents and Intermediaries) will be informed in general terms of an agreement, so that agents are in a position to handle orders for libraries.

Lists of the HE and FE institutions, Specialist Colleges and Research Councils that are eligible for NESLi2
agreements, and details of the JISC banding arrangements, can be found at:
